Friday 18th

In this lesson we mainly focused on the dancing element of the school song and we focused on character building, after rehearsing initially a few times we went onto a devising task, we were already in two groups and then we went on to set about making up a short devised piece that showed specifically the relationship between the big kids and the little kids, in our group we had two little kids and the rest of us were big kids, we decided on making up a short scene where we were playing stuck in the mud and then when the little kids came in and asked to play, to show the ‘pecking order’ of the children that had just come to the school and who had already been there a while, the big kids circled threateningly around them and started talking and jeering at how they thought they had the audacity to ask if they could play with them, then they ran off in spiteful laughter, after we had rehearsed this, we showed it to the other group and then they showed theirs, after some discussion of character building and evaluation of the two groups performances, we went back to rehearsing the whole song and dance remembering to include the facial expressions and the strength of character that we had been working on building up after the devising piece, then we did some more work on the ending of the first half of the song that we had got up to. I enjoyed devising a piece with acting and I think that my characterisation and facial expressions is definitely my strong point, I would like to improve my singing whilst dancing and performing.
